Also, it will keep you warm and dry in winter temperatures like very few other products in its price range. Design & Set Up

This awesome looking family tent comes with a cool little porch which offers plenty of space for your shoes, bags and various camping gear. The porch is screened and can be zipped up or down for extra ventilation (you’ll need plenty of it in summer). You can fit a queen size air mattress inside but don’t expect any extra room around it. The tent is very roomy for two adults.

The MoKo Waterproof Family Camping Tent’s set up can be a bit confusing as it sets up from the inside out. Nevertheless, the tent is very lightweight and can be easily moved around when setting up. You’ll just have to first loop the rain fly with the tent, slide the three poles into the sleeves, and then clip the tent onto the inside of the rain cover. The entire process tales a few minutes. Here’s a short but helpful clip on how to do it.

Quality & Sturdiness

This tent has caught our attention because it is truly waterproof and stood up to heavy downpours with no leaks. After a rainy week, when we took it down, we noticed several puddles underneath it but no leaky floor. We did use a tarp as an insurance policy but we’re pretty confident that it can perform excellently without it.

Also, multiple users have reported that the tent held up during the worst rainstorms and managed to keep them warm and the rain out. It worked very well in high wind and low temperatures but don’t expect it to be of any use in very cold weather as it was not designed for extreme weather. If you’re planning a trip in the extreme cold, check out our list of the best extreme cold weather tents.

PROS
  • 100% waterproof
  • Stands up to heavy downpoors, rainstorms, snowfall, chilly temperatures, and more
  • Quick and easy set up
  • Excellent insulation
  • Lightweight, durable, and sturdy
CONS
  • Really tight for 3 adults
  • Rain fly can’t be taken off
  • No assembly instructions
  • Can get really hot during summer even in the shade
Recommendations
The MoKo Waterproof Family Camping Tent is indeed an impressive tent for its price as it can heroically withstand drizzling rains, snowstorms, high wind, and cold weather. It is excellent for winter campouts and spring/fall camping trips as it can block the wind and rain perfectly. But this impressive 4-season tent’s Achille’s heel is its poor ventilation which doesn’t make it an inspired choice for summer camping.

9. Coleman Red Canyon 8-Person Tent for Camping

You can’t beat this 8-person car camping tent from Coleman for the price as it is spacious, ventilated, and overall ideal for large family outings. However, at this price point, it comes with some annoying flaws like poor design, zipper and seam issues (as so many users have complained about), and not really being a 4-season tent.

Coleman 8-Person Red Canyon Tent

Specs

    • 72-inch center height
    • 17 x 10 ft footprint
    • Cool Air adjustable venting system
    • Inverted seams for extra weather resistance
    • Wind-resistant frame
    • Removable rain fly
    • One back window, one front window, hinge door, rear pet door

 Read Customer Reviews

Design & Set Up

This tent is quite roomy (it fits three standard-height queen air mattresses inside) and comes with two divider sheet panels that allow you to turn the interior into three separate rooms.

The Cool-Air port at the bottom of the tent is extremely useful in hot temperatures as it allows you to adjust airflow and gear access. Nevertheless, because it cannot be zipped shut, the air vent will allow in wind chills, which makes the tent unsuitable for winter camping. What’s more the mesh opening cannot be shut down which leads to freezing low temperature during winter nights.

The set-up is intuitive thanks to the clear instructions. Two people with camping experience can set this up in 10-15 minutes max. (See clip below)

Quality & Sturdiness

Without a seam sealer dutifully applied before first use, the Coleman Red Canyon will not hold up to downpours because only the tent fabric is treated with silicone, not the seams. So expect leaks if you don’t reinforce all seams both inside and out. We recommend using water sealant spray on the rest of the tent, as well.

Another major downside of this tent is that it is not suited for winter camping as there is a lot of ventilation coming from the all-mesh top, Cool Air port, and the mesh screens that cannot be zipped shut. But as a plus, the Red Canyon can hold up to massive winds thanks to its wind-strong frame and heavy downpours if properly insulated.

PROS
  • Good ventilation
  • Plenty of room
  • Easy to set up or take down
  • No leaks (if sealed)
  • Wind resistant
  • Cheap
CONS
  • Poles may snap (no replacement)
  • Not really 4-season
  • Zipper issues
Recommendations
Despite being advertised as all-season, the Coleman 8-Person Red Canyon tent is ideal for weekend camping trips with family and friends in fair weather, and with some adjustments and investments in sleeping gear and extra tarps, it can be used during heavy rains, high winds, and chillier temperatures, as well.

8. ALPS Mountaineering Camp Creek 4 Person Tent

This is an outstanding cabin-style tent that is not as expensive or as big as other car camping tents that offer the ability to stand up. ALPS is perfect for tall families or campers that simply want to stand up inside and change clothes easily. It is not too heavy, it looks durable, and is very easy to set up. It is mostly for the campers that don’t want a fancy tent but they do want it to do exactly what it says.

ALPS Mountaineering Camp Creek

Specs

  • 7.6 x 8.6ft footprint
  • Fiberglass tent poles
  • Steel stakes
  • Factory sealed seams
  • Polyester Fly with 1500 mm coating
  • 4 windows, one door, top vent

 Read Customer Reviews

Design & Set Up

Thanks to its freestanding hub construction and pole clips that just snap over the poles, pitching the ALPS Mountaineering Camp Creek is a breeze. Just make sure that you attach the rain cover (the grey thing on top of the tent in the picture) before putting the tent up as the tent is quite tall and you’ll need two people to set it up otherwise. One person should get it up in about 20 minutes.

Quality & Sturdiness

Without seam-sealing and any waterproofing, the interior stays bone dry even in torrential downpours. Just have the rain fly up. The storm flaps are quite sturdy and can be zipped around the the windows to keep the rain at bay. We recommend buying an ALPS Mountaineering Floor Saver to reinforce the bottom, if you expect really bad weather.

One major drawback of this tent is that it cannot withstand really cool temps. If you plan on camping in temperatures that are in the 30s, just seal completely the all-screen mesh top with a tarp as the rain fly will not do it and bring in the proper sleeping gear.

PROS
  • Ability to stand upright
  • Easy setup
  • Spacious interior
  • Windproof
  • Good ventilation
  • Price
CONS
  • Bottom not waterproof
  • Drafty
  • Not for really cold weather
Recommendations
Even though it is advertised as 4-person, the ALPS Mountaineering Camp Creek is best used for two persons with all the gear inside as there is no extra storage space. It is a good looking tent that’s ideal for tall people or campers that just want to enjoy the luxury of the extra headroom.

7. Toogh 3-4 Person Camping Tent

The Toogh 3-4 Person Camping Tent is an all-season instant tent that is both fully waterproof and very ventilated. It is recommended for short family camping trips or outings with friends as it can be very easily set up and taken down. It is ideal for first-time campers.

Specs

Design & Set Up

This tent can be set up in literally 60 seconds thanks to its genius automatic hydraulic design. You’ll just have to lift up the tent’s top and it will automatically pop up. For first-time users the installation might take around 5 minutes. The Toogh camping tent is a true instant tent.

Quality & Sturdiness

The Toogh is a double layered backpacking tent that is ultra-light, has great ventilation, and is fully waterproof without the need of any waterproofing treatment. It can withstand massive winds, but it lacks proper insulation. Yet, with good sleeping gear, you can use it in frigid temperatures as well. Not for hardcore campers, however.

PROS
  • Ultralight tent
  • Instant setup
  • Waterproof
  • Good ventilation
  • Quality materials
CONS
  • Not insulated
  • Smaller than advertised
Recommendations
The Toogh 2-3 Person Camping Tent is a four-season tent ideal for weekend camping thanks to the super-easy setup and light construction. It is great for the beginner to intermediate camper, so if you’re looking for something sturdier and more versatile check out the other (more expensive) options on our list.

6. Naturehike Cloud-Up 3 Person 4 Season Backpacking Tent

The Naturehike Cloud-Up 3 is a great 4-season backpacking dome tent that can be used in all weather conditions, unless you’re eyeing an Arctic expedition (for that one, we recommend an extreme cold weather tent). This model is the brand’s lightest 3-person tent designed for all seasons with one of the most impressive set-ups. The tent can be pitched in less than five minutes.

Naturehike Cloud-Up 3 Person 4 Season Tent

Specs

  • 7 x 5.9 ft footprint

  • 4000mm water-resistant fly
  • 50+ UV-resistance
  • Footprint included
  • Aluminium frame

 Read Customer Reviews

Design & Set Up

The Naturehike Cloud-Up 3 is a breathable 4-season tent with a design that enables it to quickly shed off rain and snow. It is made of an outer and inner layer that superpose together to create a windproof and waterproof tent. From summer to autumn, use only the inner tent for a proper ventilation.

The setup is ultraquick and easy as the tent is ready for use in less than 5 minutes with the rain fly on.  It packs down small, which makes it an ideal 4-season backpacking tent.

Quality & Sturdiness

This is a very good quality tent that will keep you warm and dry on cold winter nights, but we recommend buying the gray version with included snow skirt for winter camping. It can withstand hurricane-force winds along as it is staked beforehand. The Naturehike Cloud-Up 3 also survived temperatures in the teens and several inches of snow. Another major plus is that the frame is made of aluminum not fiberglass unlike cheaper models.

PROS
  • Very light
  • Super easy setup
  • Good stitching
  • Great value
  • 1 year warranty for quality issues
CONS
  • No ventilation windows
  • Some condensation issues
  • Tent may feel a little short in length for tall people
Recommendations
The Naturehike Cloud-Up 3 is an ultra-light and very good quality backpacking tent that comes with surprisingly many features for the price. It holds up well to the rai, wind and snow, which males it perfect for year-round camping expeditions.

The flysheet has a pop-up ventilation screen to let airflow in the rain or snow. A first-time user can pitch this tent in less than 5 minutes.

Quality & Sturdiness

The Flytop 3-4 Season is a compact but sturdy tent that can withstand up to minus 12 Fahrenheit (with good sleeping gear), more than 50 mph winds (with proper staking), and heavy rain for several days in a row. It accommodates well three persons and excellently two persons.

The pole system is shock-corded so you can’t mix or lose the poles. The setting up is moderately easy – the tent should be up in less than 15 minutes (see video).

Quality & Sturdiness

The great thing about ALPS MOUNTAINEERING Tasmanian 2 is that was built with all seasons in mind. Its excellent ventilation system prevents condensation in winter while keeping the tent well ventilated in summer. All the buckles, zippers, and fabrics seem quality or high quality and are weather tested.

It has plenty of design elements like hooks for hanging lamps, mesh pockets, and two roomy vestibules to store all your gear. Thanks to the 15d and 40d materials used in its construction, this tent is surprisingly lightweight for a 3-person, 4-season tent. It’s ideal for backpacking.

The set-up is super user-friendly, as there is a free-standing 1-pole system and basically only three pieces that you’ll need to assembly. For people with not much camping experience, it is recommended that they take notes when they unpack the tent for the first time.

  • Wind-strong frame

 Read Customer Reviews

Design & Set Up

The Coleman Evanston Dome Tent is quite spacious as it can easily accommodate one queen size mattress and a twin. It comes with a screened porch that is roomy enough for many outdoor activities. The only drawback of this 4-season tent design is the rear mesh window, which cannot be covered unless the rain guard is on.

Just like other Coleman tents, this model has a relatively easy setup for a camping tent. It can be set up in less than 20 minutes by two persons or around 30 minutes by one person with minimum camping experience.

Quality & Sturdiness

This tent has a great build and lots of ventilation. It is best used in temperatures down to 40- 50 degrees Fahrenheit with good sleeping gear. Because the rear window cannot be zipped shut you can get rain in during severe rainstorms if the rain fly is not on. With the rain cover on, no rain or wind can get in. All in all, this is a sturdy tent, ideal for family camping.

PROS
  • Roomy
  • Good ventilation

  • Great design
  • Price
CONS
  • Rear window and front porch don’t zip up

1. Crua Tri Luxury Winter Tent

With a hefty price tag, this tent can offer all the comfort to a family of 3 or 4 who loves the outdoors but doesn’t want to rough it. In other words, the Crua Tri is for those of us really into luxury camping aka glamping (If you’re not familiar with the term you can check out our interview with Glamping Hub‘s Partnerships and PR Manager, Jessica Armstrong, here). The best part about this tent is that you won’t even feel like you’re camping.

Crua Tri Glamping Tent

Specs

  • 7.5 x 6.5 ft footprint + 3 x 6.5 the ‘porch’
  • Patented TT insulation layer
  • Patented anti-condensation DuraBreathe technology
  • Aero-grade aluminum poles
  • 80/20 PolyCotton Fabric
  • Reflective guy lines

 Read Customer Reviews

Design & Set Up

This double-layer luxury tent consists of a water tight but breathable rain cover (thanks to the lamination layer underneath the tent fabric) and an insulated inner cocoon that you can leave home in summer. Its two large windows, which can be opened and closed, have been successfully tested at temperatures down to minus 13 F.

The Crua Tri is relatively easy to pitch – one person can set it up in about 15-20 minutes. It is worth noting that this tent is a bit heavy, so you will need a car and a camping site with car access to transport it.

Quality & Sturdiness

Unlike most of the options on our list, this tent is extremely durable as it has been engineered for tough performance. It will not let you down in sub-freezing temperatures or hot summer nights as it has the perfect balance between insulation and breathability. It has also been field tested on all kinds of extreme weather conditions, from sub zero temps and 60mph+ winds to desert heat and heavy rain.

When used with the inner cocoon, which is layered with a blanket lined insulation that turns the entire tent into a giant sleeping bag, the Crua Try morphs into one of the warmest winter tents there are. Also, the patented insulation technology generates enough noise dampening which makes this tent ideal for noisy settings, like festivals. This is also a “dark rest tent,” i.e. the inner cocoon is so dark that you can sleep longer in the mornings or can take those afternoon naps.

PROS
  • Durable
  • 100% waterproof
  • Noise reduction
  • Super spacious
  • Quality materials
  • Great design
  • True 4-season tent
CONS
  • Large when packed up
  • Price tag
Recommendations
The Crua Tri Luxury Winter Tent is one of those rare genuine 4-season tents that manage to be waterproof, perform excellently in winter, but also have great ventilation. Its unique design and premium features make it ideal for (beach) camping, safari, fishing and hunting expeditions, music festivals, and family glamping. As one buyer put it, “It’s worth every penny!”
