10. Kelty Trail Ridge 6 – Best Lightweight 6 Person Tent for Backpacking

Kelty is a highly popular tent brand among backpacking and camping families. Their tents are known for being high-quality and fairly priced, like the Trail Ridge 6 person tent. Currently, around $230 on Amazon, the Trail Ridge 6 has an outstanding average customer rating of 4.7 stars and no 1-star reviews. At just a little over 14 pounds, it’s one of the best 6 person tent models you can buy for backpacking this year.

  • 4 DAC DA17 aluminum poles

Design & Set Up

All the materials that were used to design the Trail Ridge 6 tent are of exceptional quality. However, we’re disappointed that the overall tent is a bit tight for 6 adults to fit in. Additionally, if you want to get into the Trail Ridge tent while it’s raining, you have to open the rainfly. In other words, water will get in your tent. Aside from that, it’s tall enough inside to walk comfortably, while the tent setup is so easy that even kids can do it.

Quality & Sturdiness

Hats off to Kelty for 5-star customer service! Not only is their support department kind and helpful, but the company offers a lifetime warranty that they actually stick to. As for the Trail Ridge 6 person tent, don’t let the lightweight make you doubt its resistance. It reportedly does a great job through heavy rain, but you might want to get a dry top to be safe. Be that as it may, the high ventilation provided by the tent makes it more appropriate for summer backpacking.

PROS
  • Weighs only around 14 lb.
  • Very easy to install
  • Ideal for summer camping
  • Withstands rainstorms
  • Actual lifetime warranty
CONS
  • Tight capacity
  • Not appropriate for extreme weather
  • Rain pours in when you enter the tent
Recommendations
You can count on the Kelty Trail Ridge 6 person tent if you need a lightweight tent for backpacking with your friends or family. It is best used during the summer, or when there is no heavy wind or low temperatures.

9. Dream House Luxury (5m Diameter) – Best Aesthetic 6 Person Tent

If aesthetics are essential for you, look no further than the Dream House Luxury 6 person tent. Available in four sizes, this Dream House tent model features a gorgeous bell design that looks stunning in any environment. Even though Dream House Luxury is the most expensive 6-person tent on our list (over $500 on Amazon), it’s the right price to pay for the unique unit you receive.

Dream House Luxury Outdoor Waterproof Family Tent

Specs

  • Tent with 5-meter diameter
  • Beige cotton canvas teepee design
  • 3000mm waterproof fabric
  • 9’8” center height
  • 6-degree wind resistance (30 miles/hour)

 Read Customer Reviews

Design & Set Up

The Dream House Luxury 6-person tent is also the tallest tent of our selection, with a huge 9-foot 8 inches center height. It can easily squeeze in one king-size and two twin size beds, but also more than 6 sleeping bags. Another design perk we enjoyed was the stove hole, which you can use for both cooking and interior heating during cold weather. You should be able to set up this waterproof tent on your own in about fifteen minutes, but make sure you have a hammer.

Quality & Sturdiness

We’re sorry to say that the quality of the Dream House Luxury tent is what worries us. If you keep it up for longer periods at a time, UV rays from the sun might damage the material. Also, some users complain that the cotton canvas has a thick plastic coat and smell to it. Aside from that, this family tent will be a joy to use and admire, and it will definitely attract compliments.

PROS
  • Luxurious and spacious design
  • 4-season tent
  • Tallest center height out of all the tents on our list
  • Can fit even more than 6 people
  • Plenty of useful features
CONS
  • Questionable materials
  • Not UV-resistant
  • No customer support at all
Recommendations
Get the Dream House Luxury 6-person tent if you want a roomy model that looks outstanding. We don’t recommend keeping it erected for more than 2-3 days at a time, especially if it’s extremely hot, cold, or rainy.

8. Browning Camping Big Horn – Best 6 Person Tent for Hunting

If you’re an avid hunter, there’s no better choice than the Big Horn 6-person tent by Browning Camping to accommodate all of your gear. Not only does the Big Horn tent have a generous footprint and cool features, but it’s also fully backed up by the manufacturing company. The Browning Company Big Horn tent is currently around $250 on Amazon (with an awesome 24% discount), where it is rated with 4.4 stars and is a Family Camping Tent best-seller (#26).

Browning Camping Big Horn Family-Hunting Tent

Specs

  • 2 room-design with 2 doorways
  • 10 x 15 ft. footprint
  • 9’8” center height
  • Built-in storage pockets
  • Sealed fly and floor seams

 Read Customer Reviews

Design & Set Up

We love how the Big Horn 6 person tent cleverly includes two rooms and two large doorways. With an 8’7” center height, you won’t have any problems getting around standing straight. What makes it amazing for hunting is all the extra space (10 x 15 footprint), but also the storage pockets (3 for each room). The six windows are terrific for breathing easily, no matter how many people are in the tent. Setup should take just about 15 minutes for two people.

Quality & Sturdiness

Generally speaking, you should have a first-rate experience with the Big Horn 6-person tent for spring or autumn hunting or camping. Although some users complained about the fiberglass poles breaking, it was mostly due to notably harsh winds. Also, one or two users claim that the inner material broke, resulting in light leaking. In both situations, Browning immediately replaced any defective items, mentioning that they are not common cases.

PROS
  • Huge interior
  • Remarkable center height
  • No leaking at all
  • Real lifetime warranty
  • Can fit up to 8 sleeping bags comfortably
CONS
  • Not recommended for heavy wind
  • Poles might be flimsy
  • Manufacturing defects may lead to small leaks (but Browning sends replacements)
Recommendations
Purchase the Browning Camping Big Horn if you want the best waterproof 6 person tent to take with you while hunting. You have more than enough space for your hunting team and all the gear you bring, while the 2-room design will definitely come in handy.

7. Wnnideo Automatic Pop Up – Best 6 Person Tent for Easy Setup (also Budget-Friendly)

Not all of us are camping experts. In fact, this may be the very first time some of you are buying and using a tent on their own. For this, we have identified the best 6 person tent that makes installation a breeze. Our choice is the Wnnideo Automatic Pop Up 6-person tent, an Amazon best-seller that you can buy for just about $80. As a result, it’s also one of the least expensive tents on our list that packs in major value.

Wnnideo Automatic Instant Pop Up Tent

Specs

  • 1-minute setup
  • 4 windows and 2 doors
  • 10 x 8 foot floor
  • Removable dome
  • Water resistance & UV protection

 Read Customer Reviews

Design & Set Up

With a pop up design, you’ll have this 6 person tent up and ready to use in literally about a minute. All you have to do is prepare the floor and press down on the middle for the tent to erect. The model is extremely lightweight, and it also slips back into its carrying bag without much effort. Nevertheless, due to its small size, it may not be the best for 6 adults, but rather 2 adults and a few children.

Quality & Sturdiness

With such a low price tag, you can’t expect military quality from the Wnnideo tent. However, you will enjoy a UV-resistant tent that should withstand considerable wind and rain. The materials are rather on the cheap side, but you shouldn’t have any problems if you avoid extreme weather while camping. Feel free to remove the dome or put it back according to the conditions you experience.

PROS
  • Pop up installation
  • Lightweight umbrella design
  • Highly affordable
  • Effortlessly fits back in the bag
  • 17th best-selling Family Camping Tent on Amazon
CONS
  • Smallest tent on our list
  • Cheap materials
  • You get what you pay for
Recommendations
All in all, we recommend the Wnnideo Automatic Pop Up 6 person tent for small families that don’t want extra hassle with installing their tent. It’s also a lovely choice for those shopping for tents on a tight budget.

CORE Instant Cabin Tent

Specs

  • 11 x 9 ft. footprint
  • 7’2” center height
  • Multiple mesh vents
  • Pre-assembled frame
  • Access port for electrical cord

 Read Customer Reviews

Design & Set Up

Thanks to the pre-assembled frame, you won’t have any issues setting the tent up. It’s so easy to put together that you’ll have it all ready in just a few minutes on your own. The overall design is also more than satisfactory, with 0 leaks and plenty of ventilation for camping during summer days. You’re also sure to enjoy the CORE tent if you’re a tall camper, as the center height exceeds 7 feet.

Quality & Sturdiness

Considering the price, you get loads of value out of the CORE Cabin. The only quality complaints seem to be regarding the flimsy door zipper or the thin floor. Still, you can solve the first issue by pulling the zipper with care, while adding a good tarp will help you with the floor aspect. According to consumer reports, the CORE Cabin should perform delightfully even during heaving rainfall.

PROS
  • Generous footprint
  • Perfect ventilation for summer camping
  • Very tall tent
  • One-person quick setup
  • No leaks
CONS
  • Tricky to get back into bag
  • Floor may be a bit too thin
  • You have to be careful with the door zipper
Recommendations
You should invest in the CORE Equipment Instant Cabin 6 person tent if you plan on camping with your family frequently. The easy-setup tent provides plenty of space and high quality fabrics that also make it one of the best waterproof tents on the market.

There’s no better model than the Coleman Montana 6, an Amazon best-seller that you can buy for just around $140 from the right seller on the platform, which also makes it one of the best 6-person tents under $200.

Coleman Montana 6-Person Tent

Specs

  • Anti-bug front screen
  • Resistant polyguard fabric
  • 10 x 9 interior floor
  • Ventilation through window awnings
  • Thick, waterproof bottom

 Read Customer Reviews

Design & Set Up

We love how the design of the Montana 6 focuses on rest and relaxation. As opposed to most commercial 6-person tents, the Coleman model features a screen porch in the front area. Not only can you use this section to admire your surroundings, but it also comes in handy for keeping shoes safe and out of your tent. You won’t have any problems setting it up in just about 10 minutes on your first try.

Quality & Sturdiness

The high quality of the Montana 6 is the reason why we picked it as the best 6 person tent for bad weather. No matter how hard it may be raining outside, the sleeping section of the tent will stay bone dry. Indeed, the screen porch can and will get wet, but no water will seep inside. We don’t recommend it for winter camping, however, as it’s highly ventilated all around. On the other hand, it’s the same feature that makes it perfect for summer trips.

PROS
  • Upgraded weather-proofing
  • Sleeping area remains dry at all times
  • Simple setup
  • Very well-made
  • 21st best-selling Amazon Family Camping Tent
CONS
  • Center height on the small side
  • Not great for winter camping
  • Screen porch will get wet and dirty
Recommendations
We whole-heartedly recommend the Coleman Montana 6 person tent for bad weather like camping in the great outdoors during rain or shine. Your belongings will stay completely dry, and you’ll have a quality tent you can count on for years to come.

4. Eureka Copper Canyon 6 – Best 6 Person Tent for Hot Weather

For these camping conditions, you’ll need a tent with astounding ventilation. The Eureka Copper Canyon 6 person tent is perfect for this situation, with windows all around and a roof with complete mesh. You can purchase it for a little over $245 on Amazon, making it a reasonably priced, great value family tent.

Specs

  • Windows on each side of the tent
  • Total mesh roof
  • Steel and fiberglass frame mixture
  • Quick stash window feature
  • Extension cord port

 Read Customer Reviews

Design & Set Up

We were super impressed by how much thought Eureka put into the design of the Copper Canyon 6 person tent. You can instantly tell that it was designed for hot summer days, owing to the large amount of ventilation features. Not only do you get a huge window on every side of the tent, but you also enjoy a full mesh roof for permanent air running in and out. Installation is also easy, with one person being able to set it up in just a few minutes.

Quality & Sturdiness

We’re just a bit upset regarding the quality of several materials used for the tent. For example, the shock cord for the aluminum pole is reported to be cheap and easily breakable. After that, some complaints were registered regarding the thin floor. Notwithstanding, you can throw a heavy duty tarp into your cart before checking out. Also, thanks to its quality cabin design, you can easily walk around the tent at any time.

PROS
  • Exceptional ventilation
  • 5-minute 1-person setup
  • Cabin design for easy walking
  • No leaking issues
  • Large windows
CONS
  • Poor rainfly design
  • Flimsy shock cord
  • Thin floor
Recommendations
We support the Eureka Copper Canyon 6 person tent for camping during the hot season without any stress. You get more than enough ventilation out of the tent, including a beautiful view provided by the large windows.

3. Timber Ridge 6 – Best Cheap 6 Person Tent

Not everyone can spare a few hundred dollars for a high-end tent. The good news is that you don’t even have to break the bank to get great value. That’s where the Timber Ridge 6 comes in and saves the day, the best 6 person tent under $100. You can order the Timer Ridge 6 for around $70 on Amazon at the moment, where it has a surprising average customer rating of 4.6 out of 5 stars.

Timber Ridge 6 Person Family Camping Tent

Specs

  • D-shape door
  • 190T polyester with PU coating
  • Dual guy wires
  • Storage section
  • 3-season tent

 Read Customer Reviews

Design & Set Up

Even though Timber Ridge created this 6 person tent to be accessible for all, they still put effort into the design. The rust and stone-colored polyester fabrics truly look beautiful together, an aspect that many campers are ready to compliment. The classic dome design is highly practical, but it may be a con for users who want to walk around freely inside. Thanks to the setup guidelines stitched on the case, you’ll be able to set the tent up easily at all times.

Quality & Sturdiness

For such an inexpensive tent, you’ll be blown away by the product quality. There are literally no complaints from this point of view, which is a significant achievement on its own. We’re only slightly disappointed that the Timber Ridge 6 person tent may be a tight fit for 6 adults, and that there aren’t any ways you can contact the company. Aside from that, this is the best cheap 6-person tent.

PROS
  • Cheapest tent on our list
  • Easy tent setup
  • Aesthetically pleasing red-grey design
  • True to advertisement
  • Instructions written on carrying bag
CONS
  • Relatively small size
  • Dome design doesn’t allow easy walking
  • You can’t contact the company
Recommendations
Don’t hesitate to buy the Timber Ridge 6 person tent if you want to spend less than $100 on a tent with a long product life. We recommend the model for families who want to go camping with their children without exceeding their budget.

2. ALPS Mountaineering Meramac 6 – Best Heavy Duty 6 Person Tent for Hiking

Any hiking enthusiast knows how important a heavy-duty tent is for venturing into mountains or intricate trails. There are quite a few pricey tents that will get the job done, but we want you to get a great deal while knowing you can hike safely with it. Our recommendation for this purpose is the ALPS Mountaineering Meramac 6 person tent, a durable model that you can buy for under $150 on Amazon if you catch a discount.

Design & Set Up

ALPS Mountaineering is a company that focuses on equipment suitable for hiking, so you can rest assured knowing that their design is tailored to your needs. The Meramac 6 person tent specifically has a clever design to help you make the most of nature. You have windows all around and on the top not only for breathability, but also for admiring your surroundings. Thanks to the free-standing design, you won’t have any troubles with setup.

Quality & Sturdiness

The Meramac 6 person tent is indeed designed with excellent materials, from the Nylon taffeta cover, to the poles and zipper that are one size larger for extra resistance. Still, some users weren’t happy that some parts may be cheaply made.

We were impressed with the full length of the rainfly, as opposed to the shorter versions made by competitors. You should note that your tent will only be completely covered with the rainfly on though.

PROS
  • Oversized poles & zipper for durability
  • Plenty of light comes in
  • Free-standing design for easy assembly
  • 2 doors for extended ventilation

1. Coleman 6-Person Instant Cabin – Best 6 Person Tent of 2021

You can imagine that the best 6 person tent of the entire year had to pack incredible value for it to make our #1 spot. After weighing our options, we chose the most popular, versatile, and reliable tent from beloved manufacturer Coleman – the 6-Person Instant Cabin. Everything about this tent is so well-balanced, from the price, to the features, usability, ease of installation and more. You can currently get it for about $180 on Amazon, where it is the 6th best-selling item in the general Tent category.

Coleman 6-Person Instant Cabin

Specs

  • WeatherTec system with thick and dry floors
  • 2-layer, 150D polyester fabrics
  • Built-in rainfly
  • 6-foot center height
  • 10 x 9 ft. footprint

 Read Customer Reviews

Design & Set Up

The cabin design of this Coleman model is perfect for those who want to get up, stretch their limbs, and even walk around their tent. Two thick layers of polyester fabrics ensure the durability of the materials used, not to mention their patented WeatherTec system that keeps your floor dry. You literally need just one minute to set the tent up, and the process is just as simple when you have to take it down.

Quality & Sturdiness

There’s no doubting the high quality of the Coleman 6-person cabin. Nevertheless, you may want to consider purchasing two additional items for extra safety. Indeed, the cabin has an integrated rainfly, but it won’t be nearly enough for bad conditions. You should get a separate rainfly accessory, as well as a tent seam sealer to completely weather-proof yours. Also, rest assured that this model is as sturdy as can be.

PROS
  • 1-minute assembly
  • Thick fabrics
  • Super easy to take apart
  • Affordable (less than $200)
  • 6th best-selling Tent on Amazon
CONS
  • You may want to consider getting a separate rainfly
  • Prone to leaking (but can be solved with tent seam sealer)
  • Small size
Recommendations
We pretty much recommend the Coleman 6-Person Instant Cabin to any individual or family that wants to go camping. As long as you keep our additional purchase suggestions in mind, you’ll have one of the best tents that money can buy.

Runners-up

ALPRANG 6-Person Dome

As extra goodies, we have two bonus best 6 person tent recommendations for you. Firstly, although it didn’t succeed in making our top 10, we still whole-heartedly recommend the ALPRANG 6-Person Dome for quite a few of your camping needs. It’s also one of the cheapest tents in our list, with a price tag of only $72.99 on Amazon (without discounts).

Alprang 6 person dome

Specs

  • 1000D polyethylene material
  • 72-inch center height
  • Alterable ground vent
  • Built-in power access port
  • Carry bag included

 Read Customer Reviews

Design & Set Up

The ALPRANG 6-Person Dome has all the design perks you could want out of a summer tent. Not only is it incredibly roomy, but it also has an advanced venting system so you won’t be stuffy during hot nights. Aside from the extended ventilation, you also benefit from an interior storage pocket, access for electrical ports, and a hook for lanterns in the center. Installation is as easy as it can be.

Quality & Sturdiness

With a heavy-duty, waterproof, polyethylene design, you can count on the ALPRANG 6-Person Dome for withstanding unexpected rainfall. However, one of its pros also serves as a con: the largely mesh construction. While you get lots of ventilation, it won’t be appropriate for colder weather. The aluminum poles and 1000D materials make it a sturdy choice for warm-weather camping though.

PROS
  • Very spacious interior
  • Plenty of ventilation
  • Ideal for festivals
  • Painless installation
  • 8th best-selling Family Camping Tent on Amazon
CONS
  • Not fit for all camping conditions
  • No warranty
  • Obscure manufacturer (no website, no contact info)
Recommendations

You should get the ALPRANG 6-Person Dome if you’re into light camping and you don’t want to spend a fortune on your gear. We also believe it’s a best-buy for festival-goers.

Coleman Waterproof 6

Before we let you go, we have one last recommendation if you didn’t find the best 6 person tent for you until now. You’re already familiar with the brand, as Coleman is clearly one of the top manufacturers in the game. Nevertheless, you may not know about the budget-friendly version of the Coleman 6-Person Instant Cabin, the Coleman Waterproof 6. You can buy it for as little as $169.99 at the moment, with free shipping through Amazon Prime.

Coleman Waterproof

Specs

  • 10 x 9 ft. footprint
  • 71” center height
  • Pre-attached poles
  • 150D fabric
  • Completely taped tent

 Read Customer Reviews

Design & Set Up

The Waterproof 6 is basically the older brother of the Instant Cabin, which is one of the reasons why the former wasn’t part of our main list. Although the Instant Cabin has a few design updates, it’s fairly similar to its predecessor. You get the same generous footprint and center height, as well as the double-thick fabric, just that the newer model is reported to be more effective during rainfall. The installation will take about a minute for either tent.

Quality & Sturdiness

From a quality standpoint, the Waterproof 6 is just a bit under its successor. You shouldn’t get it if you’re camping during the rainy season, but you won’t have any other issues otherwise. The tent is as sturdy as can be, minus the potential leakage from storms. If you plan on camping during the summer when the weather is fine, you’ll love the value you get out of the Waterproof 6.

PROS
  • Effortless installation
  • Less expensive than newer model
  • Very spacious
  • Great for summer camping
  • Nice ventilation
CONS
  • Won’t withstand heavy rainfall
  • Harder to put away than to set up
  • May experience minor zipper jams
Recommendations

If you don’t have the necessary budget for the Coleman Instant Cabin 6, you should definitely go for the former model: Coleman Waterproof 6. We recommend it as a reliable tent for pleasant-weather camping.

Conclusion

To conclude, you’re now sure to find the best 6 person tent for your family’s needs. We have made our selection based on customer reviews, quality standards, and the specific features you’re looking for in a tent you can trust. As a result, you’ll be ordering a model that you know you can bring with you, whether camping during summer, spring or autumn. We’d love to hear your thoughts on the models we chose, and don’t hesitate to let us know if we missed your favorite. Have fun!

  1. My company had a team of 6 that planned on a short outdoor trip, we needed a tent with internal pocket storage.
Our research process required sometime. But with the tent the trip was a lovely one.
This is a new strategy to make our subsequent trips fun.

Thanks for the feedback. Tents don’t come in sizes, but they vary according to the number of people they can fit. If you want to go for a 2-person Kelty tent, you will save some money as they are cheaper.

  7. The only tent I have ever used was the Kelty Trail Ridge 6. I have to say, it is OK. It is very easy to carry around because it is so light. Yet at the same time, it can be a bit challenging to put up and it is not exactly waterproof. But it’s not perfect, and I am OK with that.
